Vonage Free Calls to Carribbean: Haiti

Hello Ricky38.

Vonage began to offer free unlimited calls to SOME local numbers only in the Dominican Republic. Believing that all calls to business or residential numbers in the Dominican Republic are free is a total misconception. People should be careful when calling not only the Dominican Republic but to any country.

For instance, I called my home in the Dominican Republic, and I was applied charges for calling a "Cellular/Premium" number. I told customer service that the number is not cellular, and that it was my home number. To make the story short, I ended up paying for a call that should had been free. The number I called was "1-809-435-XXXX". (NOTE: The prefix 1809435 IS NOT listed in Vonage’s International Per Minute Rate page as a cellular/premium.

But don’t take me wrong. Vonage is still by far the best telephone service provider. i’m not as a happy with Vonage as I was previous to this incident, but I am staying with Vonage, because they are still the best.

However, I opted to rely on other companies when calling my home in the Dominican Republic, because those other companies know that the prefixes 1809435 and 1829733 are residential and business numbers, not cellular/premium.
